The Corporate Governance Unit has been established by the Egyptian Banking Institute (EBI) after the Central Bank of Egypt launched the corporate governance regulation on August 23rd, 2011 requiring banks to comply with its provisions.
Corporate Governance Unit Objectives
- Raise awareness on corporate governance principles, systems and applications
- Support the business community to apply/enrich sound corporate governance practices through providing high quality of services
- Enhance the cooperation between EBI and regional and international organizations working in the field of corporate governance.
Corporate Governance Unit Activities
The Corporate Governance unit designs and delivers a variety of training programs and workshops on governance and other related topics such as the board, risk, disclosure and transparency, internal audit, audit committees and strategic management. Moreover, the unit designs special training programs/ services for each organization based on its governance training needs. The Corporate Governance unit also conducts training programs with international organizations such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Global Corporate Governance Forum (GCGF). Furthermore, the unit offers a special certificate in cooperation with the IFC for existing and potential board members to equip them with the needed knowledge to serve effectively on boards.
The corporate governance unit provides the financial and non-financial organizations with a number of advisory services such as the assessment of governance practices, as well as providing assistance in implementing best governance practices.
The corporate governance unit provides financial and non-financial organizations with numerous seminars and round tables on all the topics related to Corporate Governance.
